True love at Addington Palace wedding

Addington Palace wedding venue in London

Addington Palace Wedding

When you edit pictures after a wedding you can touch up and enhance but you can’t recreate true emotion. Anthony and ClauDieon’s Addington Palace nuptial was full of joy, smiles and loving gestures that allowed me to capture their natural style and charisma.

I first met the couple at the South of England wedding fair. I instantly liked them and wanted to take their photos. Both were passionate about photography and because they were so open with me, I was able to get a great feel for what they wanted from their day. Throughout the preparations we discussed classic styles and the backdrop of Addington Palace, along with the stylish look of Anthony and ClauDieon, gave a regal feel to the images. I liked it from start to finish…big thanks and love to them both!

Preparations

Ceremony and blessing at Addington Palace

Addington Palace is a grand venue and 200 were present to celebrate their love. The blessing certainly matched the elegance and opulence of this historic building. Henry VIII reportedly held secret meetings with Anne Boleyn in his hunting lodge on the grounds.

More recently, Brad Pitt and Ben Kingsley were there as they filmed War Machine. It’s easy to see why it was selected for movies and easy to see why Anthony and ClauDieon chose the venue. The Grand Hall was perfect for the ceremony and blessing. The image of ClauDieon smiling and speaking with the microphone, while Anthony places his hand on his heart, is a nice moment. The large mirror reflecting the chandelier adds a sense of grandeur to the image.

Group and couple shots

I usually go for natural light with my couple sessions. However, the majority of this shoot was inside the Grade II listed Georgian mansion. I was pleased with the pastel shades and warm glows off the wall light. It has ten rooms to chose from but I particularly  enjoyed the staircase leading to the second floor. You got to love weddings at Addington Palace!

The ambient light from the wall lighting, coupled with the bride’s yellow fan, complemented the turquoise wallpaper and carpet. The banister presented leading lines and perspective with eyes resting nicely on ClauDieon as she make her way up to the staircase to her husband. The relaxed nature of the couple and willingness to try different angles provided some nice images. I chose a selection for this blog, I could have selected many more. I sincerely hope they enjoy looking back on them.

For the group pictures we ventured outside where I chose the rear of the Palace for the backdrop and the Surrey countryside. Once again the guests and bridal party entered into the spirit of the occasion. The lime green dress of ClauDieon’s daughter added a striking splash of colour and contrasted beautifully with the blue dresses worn by the bridesmaids. The group shot of the lads worked nicely in black and white. I liked the expression on Anthony’s face as he leaned forward on the cane while his group were fanned out behind in a fairly formal pose.

Reception

The meal and reception was held in the grand hall with the top table positioned in front of the huge fire place. The guests were seated on circular tables beneath large chandelier and an overview shot was captured from the adjoining balcony. Often for a photographer, the speeches are the most rewarding moments. It’s a time to be discreet and capture the emotions. The fondness towards Anthony and ClauDieon from their friends and family came across so strongly in the speeches. It was a truly touching moment and I do hope I captured the laughter and the odd tear in my images.

Acknowledgement
