Fabulous Battle Abbey School wedding in East Sussex

Congratulations to Mr & Mrs Potter who, along with their Harley-Davidson, were married at historic Battle Abbey School in the small town of Battle, East Sussex, England. There are few wedding venues that can offer such glorious memories and superb photo opportunities as Battle Abbey School for us Sussex wedding photographers. The boarding school occupies part of the town’s heritage site, the ruined abbey complex. It is from here that the school derives its name.

The imposing 13th century Abbot’s House was preserved and passed into private hands. Numerous additional structures also survived including the imposing 14th century gatehouse, which now serves as the school gate. You just have to love shooting weddings here!

Wedding photography offers

I met the happy couple at a recent wedding fair where they took up on my wedding photography offer at the time. I covered from the groom’s grand arrival on his pride and joy, a Harley-Davidson motorbike which provided some great image ideas. The boys were totally up for it and made the most of their wedding photography opportunities. The bride’s entrance via the gatehouse in her red vintage wedding car was just as incredible. My telephoto lens came handy to capture the moment.

My favourite part of the wedding was shooting the couple at the heritage site. My prime lenses came in handy once again due to the low light condition. On the grounds of the school, I shot the images using my telephoto lens and my ultra wide angle, to include as much of the scenery as possible. By using a narrow aperture, I managed to capture the rays of the sun creeping around the tower and shining on the happy couple.

Wedding photography wouldn’t be the same without some fun wedding guest’s shots. I used the rim light in most of my images to provide that nice english summer glow. The rim light is where the sun is behind the subject and gives the appearance of a light outline. This technique pulls the subject from the background and offers depth and dimension to the shot. Perfect for summer Sussex weddings.
