Sharna & Chris' wedding
New Year's Eve: Winter-wonder wedding in the woods at Trinity Church in Forest Green, Surrey.
One of the nicest perks of being a Sussex wedding photographer is that we get to travel the width and depth of the country and visit some stunning places and wedding venues.
The happy couple saw my work online and used my wedding photography offer that was running at the time. Yet another booking by just seeing my artistic wedding photography work online and talking to me on the phone. The pre-wedding consultation happened a few weeks before the big day.
Sharna & Chris‘ New Year’s Eve wedding was during one of the wettest December's on record. The couple wanted some outside shots and as they were getting ready deep in the muddy forest, we had to have some wellies handy. As soon as the groom’s party put them on with their wedding suits, all their shyness and insecurities were gone. The wellies and the wedding suits within the winter forest made a lovely combination - I and the couple loved the results. I used only two locations but - as aways - by using multiple lenses I achieved a nice variety for the Groom’s photo shoot.
I used predominantly my prime lens to provide some stunning soft images during the bridal prep - I also had to crop out the random 20-year-old PC screens that were also in the room! Prime lens, with a wide aperture, really isolated my subject from the background and made the bride pop from the image. I even carried bouquet, along with some bridal accessories, into the forest to get those detailed shots with the winter forest background - I just love those shots. I thrive on situation likes these and it inspires me to be creative. As a wedding photographer my Sussex wedding photographer my skills are constantly tested and I love the challenge!
The Forest Green church was one of the smallest I photographed a wedding service. It was very intimate and the Christmas decorations gave a warm and festive atmosphere.
I knew the winter wedding days are very short and light would be an issue. I asked the bride and bridal party to arrive early to take some of the their group photos beforehand - It did the trick and the wedding group shots looked great with the church behind them.
Using the prime lens, which allows a lot of light into the camera sensor, allowed me not to use a flash inside the church during a winter day with low light. The result was softer images without the harsh glare of a flash. This is one of the many advantages of booking a professional photographer who knows how to use professional equipment in many different environments.
By the time the intimate wedding service finished the sun was just about to go down so we were able to take a few guest shots outside. The light provided some nice moody images.
Sharna and Chris requested their couple shots inside the church and at their wedding reception venue The Parrot, a quintessential English pub with low lighting and low ceilings. I used a Gary Fong flash diffuser which eliminated the use of direct flash and reduced unnecessary harsh lighting on the faces of the wedding party.
The party really got stared just after the cutting of the cake. Beforehand I quickly rearranged the balloons which were invaluable as a backdrop. I’m always looking for ways to create a special shot using what is to hand and using props that are important to the wedding party. It makes for nice memories for them to look back on when they visit my gallery or open their wedding albums.
I was humbled by the review I received from the happy couple: "We hired Maria for our wedding on New Years eve and she was fantastic from start to finish. I chose her because of the detail and atmosphere she captures in her photography which stood out and we loved the results. She was a pleasure to work with , replying straight away to any queries and we only had to wait a few days after the wedding to see our photos online which we were free to share with friends and family. We also ordered one of her beautiful albums which she prepared and sent out in no time at all. We couldn't have asked for more and would not hesitate to recommend Maria and Ebourne Images."
